Federico Higuain continued his outstanding August, scoring a brace for the 2nd match in a row and leading the Crew to a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday.

The Crew (8-11-5) won back to back matches for the 1st time this season and left a noisy Crew Stadium crowd of 16,352 feeling good about the Black and Gold’s future.

Pipa stars again

Higuain scored his 3rd and 4th goals of August, knocking home a rebound off a Bernardo Anor shot in the 1st half, and chipping home another highlight-reel goal in the 2nd half.

Higuain seems to be enjoying playing a more forward position these past 2 matches, teaming up with Jairo Arrieta up top.

Marshall in top form

The undisputed leader in the back for the Crew these past few years has been Chad Marshall. The former MLS Defender of the Year has helped the Crew play stout defense over the years, but injuries have cost him significant time and the squad has often played subpar defense in his absence.

In recent weeks, Marshall has looked healthy and fresh. His strong play in the center of the backline has led the Black and Gold to some stellar defensive efforts.

Lampson proving to be a more than adequate backup

Matt Lampson was not tested often in this match, due in large part to the aforementioned prowess of Marshall and the Crew backline. Lampson was credited with 2 saves for his 2nd consecutive shutout. While Andy Gruenebaum is undeniably the No. 1 goalkeeper for this team, Lampson is showing that he is a solid backup.
