Sunderland is back in last place after losing to Stoke City 2-0 Saturday, but they tried valiantly to pull out a result. Jozy Altidore, who did not start, entered the match in the 85th minute after Stoke went up 2-0 in the 81st minute. On the other end, Geoff Cameron put together a man of the match performance while he played the entirety of the game. Brek Shea also happened to make the bench for Stoke for the first time in Premier League play this season.

Tim Howard played 90 minutes in what could be considered one of the most thrilling Premier League games so far this season. Six goals were scored in this Merseyside derby as Everton and Liverpool drew 3-3. Everton were up 3-2 in the 82nd minute after a Romelu Lukaku hat trick, but failed to retain the win as Daniel Sturridge drew the match even in the 89th minute.

Brad Guzan and Aston Villa also drew this past weekend. Villa and West Brom drew 2-2 as Guzan played another 90 minutes for Villa.

In the Championship, Bolton and Tim Ream continue to turn heads. Bolton took down Watford 1-0 Saturday, which means Bolton is unbeaten in their last eight matches. Ream once again played 90 minutes for Bolton.

Duane Holmes dressed but did not play for Huddersfield as they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. Oguchi Onyewu did the same for QPR as they beat Charlton 1-0.

Danny Williams returned from injury Saturday to take part in Reading’s 0-0 draw against Blackburn. The midfielder entered the game at halftime and played the remaining 45 minutes. Eric Lichaj also played 45 minutes this past weekend. The defender started for Nottingham Forest but was replaced at halftime. Nottingham Forest drew Burnley 1-1.

Fabian Johnson has returned to playing left midfield with Hoffenheim it seems. The left sided German-American played 90 minutes away to Augsburg at left midfielder. Augsburg defeated Hoffenheim 2-0.

Elsewhere, Jermaine Jones played a sturdy 90 minutes for Schalke in a 3-3 tie to Eintracht Frankfurt Saturday. Schalke currently reside in sixth place in the Bundesliga table.

Nurnberg and Timmy Chandler currently sit second from bottom. Nurnberg drew Wolfsburg 1-1 this weekend while Chandler played 90 minutes. The draw means Nurnberg have yet to win a match this season after 13 fixtures.

Another American rightback, Steve Cherundolo, made the bench for Hannover 96 over the weekend after a long absence due to injury. He did not make an appearance in Hannover’s 3-1 loss to Hamburg.

In the Bundesliga 2, 1860 Munich defeated Greuther Furth 1-0. Bobby Wood played the final six minutes off of the bench. Alfredo Morales played another 90 minutes for Ingolstadt as they took down Cologne 1-0. The win was Ingolstadt’s second win in a row. Ingolstadt is now on a four-game unbeaten streak.

Roma seem to be struggling a bit with Francesco Totti out injured and have tied three matches in a row after a perfect start to their Serie A campaign. Roma’s last draw came this Monday against Cagliari. The fixture had a few interesting talking points to it. Not only was manager Rudi Garcia sent off, but Michael Bradley was given an opportunity at rightback. The midfielder was subbed on in the 81st minute after starting rightback Maicon received a yellow card in the 74th minute. The rightback cameo may lead to further appearances in the position but the move was likely just to put another midfielder on in efforts to win the deadlocked match. The game ended scoreless.

After drawing Feyenoord 2-2, AZ Alkmaar drew Roda 2-2 this week in a match that saw three red cards handed out. Aron Johannsson scored yet another goal and came away with another assist. Johannsson is now tied with Graziano Pelle for second leading goal scorer in the Eredivisie with 10 goals.

Nantes had a day to forget Sunday as the fifth place side lost to Monaco 1-0 at home. Alejandro Bedoya played the final 24 minutes as a sub.

Odense and Viborg are both on downward spirals in the Danish Superliga. Viborg lost to Copenhagen 4-1 Sunday for instance. Babajide Ogunbiyi played 90 minutes once again. The loss is Viborg’s third in a row. Viborg are now in seventh place. Right below them in eighth is Conor O’Brien’s club Odense. After two straight losses, Odense drew Randers 1-1 this weekend. O’Brien did not start but was subbed on in the eighth minute. O’Brien also received a yellow card in the 85th minute.

Anderlecht are back in fifth place after a loss to Sporting Charleroi Saturday. Sacha Kljestan started and played 90 minutes but could not keep Anderlecht from losing 2-1.

Rapid Wien took down Salzburg 2-1 Sunday as Terrence Boyd played 87 minutes for Rapid.
