The Los Angeles Galaxy announced on Tuesday that they have signed 22-year old Samuel on loan from Brazilian Serie A side Fluminese. Samuel scored 15 goals in 72 appearances during the last 2 years in Brazil.

“We are pleased to add Samuel to our roster,” Galaxy manager Bruce Arena said in a statement. “Samuel is a young, talented forward with both size and skill. We are confident his addition will help boost our attack in 2014.”

It's no secret Arena has been trying to sign a target for a while now to play alongside Robbie Keane with hopes of having Landon Donovan return to his natural position in the midfield.

"Samuel's a forward from Fluminese, we've seen him in person about a month ago watched him on film he's the kind of player we think we need on our team a big strong athletic forward,” Arena said. “Plays well in front of the goal, he will be a presence in front of the goal. He's a young player with a lot of potential and we need to get him here in Los Angeles and see how he fits in with our team."

LA had success with Donovan and Keane playing together up top but their midfield struggled to find a rhythm for most of the season. Gyasi Zardes had to switch from playing forward to the left midfield position when LA traded Mike Magee to the Chicago Fire for Robbie Rogers, who then suffered a few injuries that sidelined him for most of the second half of the season. The right midfield was inconsistent as well. Arena shuffled players like Hector Jimenez and Michael Stephens into that position for most of the season.

Samuel adds another huge target on set pieces and gives opponents someone else to mark other than Omar Gonzalez. The team only scored 8 of their 54 goals last season through headers so this is much needed for the team as they lost out on Eddie Johnson to DC United.

And, according to LA Galaxy Insider, Adam Serrano, Arena is looking to add another target forward before the end of the month.

“We’re going to follow up this week with probably another player who can play that position as well. We’re trying to shore up our target position,” said Arena.
